In the post-depression era of the 1930's to the post-war period of the 1940's and 1950's, manufacturers wooed the homemaker with colorful cotton tablecloths and napkins tucked into laundry powder boxes as premiums. That's how it was that nearly every kitchen in America had apple tablecloths and floral and cherry and any theme you can imagine to brighter the family dinner table.
